For the “Dirt” Layers:
- 1 (15.35 oz) package Oreo cookies
For the Creamy Filling:
- 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 (12 oz) container frozen whipped topping (like Cool Whip), thawed
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
For the Topping & Assembly:
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
- Chocolate syrup for drizzling
- Extra Oreo cookies for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the “Dirt”: Place the entire package of Oreo cookies into a food processor and pulse until they become fine crumbs. Alternatively, place them in a zip-top bag and crush them with a rolling pin.
- Make the Creamy Filling: In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the softened cream cheese and softened butter together until smooth and creamy. Beat in 1 cup of powdered sugar and the vanilla extract.
- Gently fold in the thawed whipped topping until the mixture is uniform and smooth.
- Assemble the Cake: In a 9×13 inch pan or a large trifle bowl, sprinkle about one-third of the Oreo crumbs evenly over the bottom.
- Carefully spread half of the cream cheese mixture over the Oreo layer. Drizzle generously with chocolate syrup.
- Sprinkle another third of the Oreo crumbs over the cream cheese layer.
- Spread the remaining half of the cream cheese mixture on top. Finish with the last third of the Oreo crumbs.
- Chill: Cover the cake and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow it to set completely.
- Make the Topping: Just before serving, make the cocoa whipped cream. In a chilled bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream, 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar, and the cocoa powder with an electric mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form.
- Decorate and Serve: Spread a thin layer of the cocoa whipped cream over the top of the chilled dirt cake. Transfer the remaining cocoa whipped cream to a piping bag. Pipe decorative dollops on top. Dust the dollops with a little extra cocoa powder and garnish with whole Oreo cookies before slicing and serving.
