Instructions

Step-by-Step Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9 by 13 inch baking dish.
  • Spread the apple pie filling evenly across the bottom of the baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the ground cinnamon evenly over the apple filling.
  • Drizzle the caramel sauce evenly over the apples.
  • Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the apple layer.
  • Gently spread the cake mix into an even layer without stirring.
  • Arrange the cold butter slices evenly over the cake mix.
  • Cover as much of the dry cake mix as possible with the butter slices.
  • Place the baking dish in the preheated oven.
  • Bake for 45 to 50 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  • Check that the apple filling is bubbling around the edges.
  • Remove the baking dish from the oven.
  • Allow the dump cake to cool for 20 minutes.
  • Drizzle with additional caramel sauce if desired.
  • Scoop the warm dessert into serving bowls and serve warm.

Notes

If the top starts browning too quickly before the filling bubbles, loosely cover the dish with foil and continue baking. Do not stir the layers at any point. The dry cake mix must stay on top of the apples to form a golden crust. The butter slices should be placed close together so the cake mix absorbs moisture evenly.
