Ingredients

For the Crust:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup crushed nuts (pecans work best)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted

For the Caramel Layer:

  • 20 KRAFT caramels, unwrapped
  • 3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream

For the Cream Cheese Layer:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup Cool Whip (from an 8 oz container)

For the Chocolate Pudding Layer:

  • 6.8 oz chocolate instant pudding (two 3.4 oz packages)
  • 3 cups cold milk

For the Topping:

  • Remaining Cool Whip from the container
  • 1/4 cup chocolate shavings

Instructions

Preparing the Crust

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, crushed nuts, sugar, and melted butter for the crust. Mix until the ingredients are evenly moistened.
  • Press the mixture into the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish, ensuring an even layer.
  • Bake for 10 minutes, then remove and let the crust cool completely.

Building the Layers

  • In a small saucepan, melt the KRAFT caramels with heavy cream over low heat, stirring frequently until smooth.
  • Pour the caramel evenly over the cooled crust and refrigerate for 15–30 minutes to let it set.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and mix well.
  • Gently fold in 1 cup of Cool Whip until combined. Spread this mixture over the caramel layer.

Finishing Touches

  • Whisk the chocolate pudding mix with cold milk until it thickens, then spread it over the cream cheese layer.
  • Top with the remaining Cool Whip and sprinkle chocolate shavings over the dessert.
  • Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1–2 hours before serving.

Notes

Swap pecans for walnuts or almonds if preferred. Use homemade caramel sauce instead of store-bought caramels for a richer flavor. Dairy-free cream cheese and whipped topping can be used for a lactose-free version. For a gluten-free option, substitute gluten-free flour in the crust.
