Ingredients

For the Brownie Cake

  • 240 ml unsalted butter melted
  • 360 ml granulated sugar
  • 240 ml packed light brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 5 ml vanilla extract
  • 360 ml all-purpose flour
  • 120 ml unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2.5 ml baking powder
  • 1.25 ml salt
  • 240 ml semisweet chocolate chips

For the Chocolate Fudge Sauce

  • 120 ml heavy cream
  • 120 ml unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 60 ml granulated sugar
  • 30 ml unsalted butter
  • 5 ml vanilla extract

Optional Substitutions

  • 1:1 gluten-free flour blend for a gluten-free version
  • coconut cream for a dairy-free alternative
  • dark chocolate chips or chunks for a more intense flavor

Instructions

Preheat Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan to prevent sticking.

Prepare Brownie Cake Batter

  • In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Mix well until fully incorporated.
  • Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition to ensure a smooth batter.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing just until combined. Overmixing can lead to a tougher texture.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips to distribute them evenly.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly for uniform baking.

Bake Brownie Cake

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. The cake should be firm but still fudgy.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan before cutting. This helps it set and prevents crumbling.

Prepare Chocolate Fudge Sauce

  • In a saucepan, combine the heavy cream, cocoa powder, sugar, and butter. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture becomes smooth.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Let the sauce cool slightly before drizzling to achieve the perfect consistency.

Serve

  • Cut the cooled brownie cake into even slices.
  • Drizzle the warm chocolate fudge sauce generously over each slice.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy this rich, indulgent Chocolate Fudge Brownie Cake.

Notes

For a healthier version: Reduce sugar by 25% for a slightly less sweet version. Substitute half the butter with unsweetened applesauce to lower fat content. Use whole wheat flour for added fiber. For a vegan version, replace eggs with flax eggs and use dairy-free butter and chocolate chips.
