Ingredients

Chocolate Base

  • 200 g dark chocolate (50–70% cocoa), chopped
  • 200 ml heavy cream

Cream Layer

  • 250 g mascarpone (or full-fat cream cheese)
  • 250 ml heavy cream, cold
  • 2–3 tbsp powdered sugar optional, depending on the sweetness of the chocolate
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract optional

Decoration

  • 30–50 g melted dark chocolate

Instructions

  • Heat the 200 ml of heavy cream until it just begins to simmer. Pour it over the chopped chocolate and let it sit for 2 minutes. Stir until smooth, then allow the mixture to cool slightly.
  • In a large bowl, whip the cold heavy cream until soft peaks form. In another bowl, whisk the mascarpone with powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.
  • Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone. Gradually fold in the cooled chocolate mixture until fully incorporated. Avoid overmixing to maintain a light texture.
  • Spoon or pipe the mousse into serving dishes or individual glasses. Smooth the surface for an elegant finish.
  • Drizzle melted chocolate over the top. Use a skewer or knife to create a swirl pattern if desired.
  • Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the mousse to set.

Notes

Opt for high-quality chocolate with at least 50% cocoa for the best flavor. If mascarpone is unavailable, full-fat cream cheese can be used but will yield a slightly denser texture. For a dairy-free version, substitute coconut cream for the heavy cream and use a dairy-free chocolate.
