Ingredients

For the cake:

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • Ingredients listed on cake mix box typically eggs, oil, water
  • 1 package 3.4 oz instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the poke filling:

  • 1 can 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup hot fudge sauce warmed

For the topping:

  • 1 tub 8 oz whipped topping (Cool Whip), thawed
  • ½ cup cocoa powder optional
  • 1 cup crushed Oreo cookies
  • ½ cup mini chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chocolate shavings or curls
  • Extra drizzle of hot fudge sauce optional

Instructions

  • Preheat oven according to the chocolate cake mix instructions. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Prepare the cake batter as directed on the box. Stir in the instant chocolate pudding mix, milk, and vanilla extract.
  • Pour batter into the prepared baking dish and bake as directed, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool for 10 minutes. Using the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes all over the cake.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk and warmed hot fudge sauce. Pour the mixture over the cake, making sure it seeps into the holes. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to let the filling soak in.
  • In a mixing bowl, fold cocoa powder into the whipped topping (if using) for extra chocolate flavor. Spread the whipped topping evenly over the chilled cake.
  • Sprinkle crushed Oreo cookies, mini chocolate chips, and chocolate shavings on top. Drizzle extra hot fudge sauce if desired.
  • Refrigerate for another 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra moist cake, substitute the water in the cake mix with milk.
Warm the hot fudge sauce slightly for easier pouring into the holes.
Use the end of a wooden spoon to create uniform holes about 1 inch in depth.
Ensure the cake is fully chilled before serving to maintain structure and presentation.
