Ingredients

Cream Filling

  • cups heavy whipping cream, cold
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk, chilled 14 oz

For Assembly

  • 1 package ladyfingers 7 oz
  • ¾ cup lemon-lime soda such as Sprite or 7UP, or milk
  • 2 lbs fresh strawberries, washed and hulled
  • Meringue cookies, roughly crushed as desired

Strawberry Topping

  • Store-bought strawberry preserves or jam
  • 10 oz fresh strawberries, chopped 300g
  • 4 tablespoons granulated sugar adjust to taste
  • Juice of ½ small lemon

Instructions

Make the Strawberry Sauce

  • In a saucepan, combine the strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice.
  • Cook over medium heat until the strawberries soften and the mixture thickens into a jam-like sauce, about 10–15 minutes.
  • Let cool completely before using. Taste and adjust the sweetness if needed.

Make the Cream

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the cold heavy cream and sweetened condensed milk until thick, fluffy, and soft peaks form.

Assemble the Dessert

  • Spread a thin layer of cream in the bottom of a large serving dish.
  • Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the soda (or milk) and arrange them in a single layer.
  • Slice a few strawberries and line the sides of the dish for a beautiful presentation.
  • Scatter chopped strawberries over the ladyfingers.
  • Spread a generous layer of the whipped cream mixture over the strawberries.
  • Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers.
  • Finish with the remaining cream, smoothing the top evenly.

Chill

  • Spread the cooled strawberry sauce (or strawberry preserves) over the top.
  • Cover and refrigerate overnight for the best flavor and texture.

Decorate

  • Just before serving, top with fresh strawberries and crushed meringue cookies.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use full-fat whipping cream. If you prefer a less sweet dessert, reduce the sugar in the homemade strawberry sauce. Lemon-lime soda adds a subtle tang, but milk works well for a milder taste.
