Ingredients
  

For the Chocolate Cake

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (or homemade equivalent)
  • Ingredients listed on the cake mix box (typically eggs, oil, and water)

For the Ice Cream Layer

  • 1 quart vanilla ice cream, softened 4 cups

For the Hot Fudge Layer

  • 1 jar hot fudge sauce about 12 oz

For Topping

  • Whipped cream
  • Chocolate shavings or sprinkles optional

Instructions
 

Bake the Cake

  • Preheat your oven according to the temperature on the cake mix package.
  • Prepare the chocolate cake batter as directed.
  • Pour into a greased 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Cool completely before adding the ice cream layer.

Add the Ice Cream Layer

  • Let the vanilla ice cream soften at room temperature for easier spreading.
  • Spread evenly over the cooled cake.
  • Smooth the surface with a spatula.
  • Cover tightly with plastic wrap or foil.
  • Freeze for 2–3 hours, or until firm.

Add the Hot Fudge

  • Warm the hot fudge sauce slightly—just enough to make it pourable.
  • Remove the cake from the freezer.
  • Pour and spread the fudge sauce into an even layer.
  • Freeze again for 1–2 hours until set.

Slice & Serve

  • Let the cake sit at room temperature for 5–10 minutes before slicing.
  • Cut into squares.
  • Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings if desired.
